I was born in Massachusetts, yet most of my formative years were spent in Beaverton, Oregon. Upon obtaining a B.A. in music in 2006, I immediately began teaching private piano and elective music classes at a nearby private school. I also released an album of original songs I sang and performed on piano in 2006, and spent about two years performing at numerous religious gatherings and coffee shops as a singer-songwriter.
In 2008, I moved to Northern California. I taught at a music school that gave me numerous opportunities to teach students of all ages, privately, in small groups, and in classroom settings. It was at this school I gained much of my Orff and Kodaly experience through the Kindermusik curriculum, as well as my first experiences with Conversational Solfege as a contracted classroom music teacher. During these 10 years, I continued to write music and perform original music as a hobby. I also led a church band, and we enjoyed putting on house concerts and performing in the community at seasonal events.
I moved back to Oregon in 2018 and enrolled at the University of Oregon the following year to obtain my teacher’s license and master’s in music education. During this time I also taught an after-school recorder program with the Eugene Symphony (Orchestra Sings), in addition to numerous online and in-person piano lessons.
Upon graduation, I am looking forward to investing in the Salem community (alongside my two children and my cat, Cheddar) as an elementary general music and choir teacher. I will likely also continue teaching private piano lessons. My long-term goal is to have a positive impact in my community through music education and to be a supportive and empowering “teacher of teachers,” either by launching a music school or extracurricular program, chairing a district music committee, or becoming a school principal.
